Energy software business, Kaluza, today announces winning both ‘Innovation of the Year’ and ‘Mobility Project of the Year’ in the UK Green Business Awards hosted by BusinessGreen in London last night.
The award was won for the platform’s innovative bidirectional Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) charging, impressing the judges with its ‘groundbreaking work’ and ability to enable the growth of the electric vehicles and smart grid sectors.
Kaluza’s algorithms have optimised over 330 V2G devices across the UK enabling customers to charge at the cheapest and greenest times, and sell surplus energy back to the grid. In total, customers earned up to £800 per year without needing to do anything except keep their cars plugged in when they were not in use. Kaluza has successfully shifted 2.19 GWh of energy through this programme and proved the potential of V2G to save £3.5bn per year on grid infrastructure reinforcement and 46.7 tonnes of CO2.
This year, Kaluza in partnership with Volkswagen Group UK, OVO and Indra have led Project INFLEXION. The project builds on previous work through customer research and simulations of two-way EV charging to develop compelling customer propositions and sustainable business models for the effective scaling of the technology.
Valts Grintals, Product Marketing Lead at Kaluza, commented: “By 2030, aggregated EVs around the world could create at least 4 TWh of flexible storage capacity. Smart and bidirectional V2X charging are critical technologies for unlocking the full value of this lucrative storage potential.
We are delighted to have won these two awards and are excited to be building on this valuable work through INFLEXION to maximise the accessibility and benefits of this innovation.”
