London – 16th October, 2024 – Kaluza, the advanced software platform for energy, is powering a new smart energy offering called Battery Boost, enabling OVO to offer cheaper renewable energy rates to its solar customers with GivEnergy batteries, saving customers an additional £120/year via their solar panel systems.

The first solar and battery plan of its kind, Kaluza’s advanced software platform orchestrates the intelligent top-up of solar batteries at greener, cheaper rates when solar generation is low. Powered by Kaluza’s world-leading optimisation engine, batteries are charged at 10p per kWh during low-demand periods – around 60% cheaper than the standard variable electricity tariff.

By making green technology work harder, Kaluza is significantly reducing costs for customers who invest in solar PV and batteries. Kaluza’s software is shaping the future of connected homes, where multiple devices are seamlessly orchestrated and optimised to respond to changing grid conditions in real time. By helping customers unlock the full potential of their smart home technology, Kaluza provides reassurance that their systems are delivering maximum value.

Propositions like Battery Boost hold significant potential to drive customer trust and product uptake for energy retailers aiming to retain and expand their customer base. By delivering tangible savings and making decarbonisation simple, Kaluza empowers energy retailers to deliver the products that customers want and the planet needs.

This service is available to customers with a GivEnergy battery who have solar PV installed by OVO.

Neel Gulhar, Chief Product Officer at Kaluza, commented:

“Empowering energy companies to innovate affordable low-carbon propositions is critical for building customer engagement in the energy transition. By leveraging home batteries when demand is high on the grid, Kaluza’s software is embedding customers at the heart of the system and making green tech ownership more rewarding.

The UK remains at the forefront of energy innovation and it’s exciting to be collaborating with OVO and GivEnergy on a service with game changing potential for markets across the world – driving decarbonisation at pace.”

Scott Duncan, OVO Head of Solar and Storage commented:

“Residential solar and battery systems offer huge untapped potential for customers to slash their energy bills all-year round, not just during summer months. Battery Boost is a crucial step towards this – delivering a flexible energy system that is better for customers, their wallets and the planet.

Adoption of smart solutions like Battery Boost are central to the transformation of the current energy grid into a distributed, clean energy system that we need for the future.”

Dave Roberts, UK MD at GivEnergy, commented:

“We’re incredibly proud to join forces with OVO Energy and Kaluza on such an empowering initiative for billpayers. This level of collaboration between energy providers and energy technology manufacturers is something we urgently need more of if we are to end fuel poverty and decarbonise the UK.

Next-generation offerings like Battery Boost should sit at the heart of the modern low-carbon home. Ultimately, they help billpayers unlock the benefits of a grid system that is clean, affordable, and effortless to navigate.”
